Presentation Honors 2010

Over eighty Presentation alumnae, friends, family members, and Sisters celebrated three extraordinary women during the Third Annual Presentation Honors luncheon on Sunday, January 31, 2010.

The honorees this year are Nadine Calliguri, Presentation High School, San Francisco, Class of 1958, Katherine Grange Atkinson, Presentation High School, Berkeley, Class of 1964, and Lucy Padilla Gonzalez, Our Lady of Loretto High School, Los Angeles, Class of 1954.

Sister Pam Chiesa, President of the Sisters of the Presentation, reminded the gathering that these alumnae were chosen for their achievements in their professions, community service, and commitment to the values taught to them during their educations by the Sisters of the Presentation.

When presented with their awards, each woman spoke of her fond memories of her high school experience, but also of the deep appreciation each felt for the quality of their academic education, the nurturing of relationships, the values and the sense of service each received from the Sisters and lay teachers at each school.

Nearly one hundred and thirty guests gathered for the annual tea which honors Founders Club donors and introduces Alumnae Scholarship Winners to the Presentation community on Sunday, August 23, 2009.

Also honored at the Tea was this year’s Legacy Leader, Lorraine Denegri D’Elia.  Each year, a Legacy Leader is recognized for his or her financial and service contributions over a period of years to the Sisters of the Presentation.

Lorraine D’Elia is an alumna of Presentation High School, San Francisco, Class of 1952, and over the years has been a faithful contributor of time, talent, and treasure to the ministries and life of the Sisters of the Presentation.  “Lorraine’s commitment, dedication, love and support of the Sisters of the Presentation, their mission, ministries, and the Presentation alumnae has a long and stellar history,” noted Helen Harwood, Director of Development and Director of Alumnae, in the program for the Tea.  In 2008, Lorraine became an Associate of the Sisters of the Presentation.

On behalf of the Sisters of the Presentation, Sister Pam Chiesa, PBVM, President of the Sisters of the Presentation thanked the Founders Club members for their financial support over the past calendar year and noted that they share the values of generosity, education, and ministry.

In appreciation for their support, Each Founders Club donor was given a certificate from Greensburg Wind Farm in Greensburg, Kansas, which aids in creating sustainable energy sources.  The projects supported reduce dependence on fossil fuels for production of electricity and reduce other greenhouse gas emissions.

Eleven of the thirteen Alumnae Scholarship winners were present at the Tea.  This year, the Alumnae Scholarship Committee agreed to fund more applicants than usual in response to the difficult economic times many families are facing this year and also as a support to Catholic high schools which are also facing lower enrollments due to the economic downturn.
