Vocation Directors for the North American Presentation Congregations
sponsored a volunteer program for women discerning their vocation as a
Sister of the Presentation in New Orleans in March, 2008.
The thirteen directors and women discerning volunteered their services
through Christopher Homes and Catholic Charities of New Orleans. The
volunteer program was an opportunity for the women to learn more about
the charism of the Sisters of the Presentation and to put that charism
into action by helping others in some very basic ways. Volunteer
activities for the week included helping with dry walling, painting, and
yard work at one home under construction and at other sites.

They also volunteered with the Presentation Sisters who minister at
Lantern Light in New Orleans. At the Lantern Light center, volunteers
prepared and served lunches, participated with the clients in
activities, and helped with basic chores such as restocking pantry
shelves and gardening. Lantern Light is one of several organizations
that operate the Rebuild Center which provides basic services to the
homeless and those trying to rebuild their houses and lives after the
devastating Katrina hurricane. |
